Now what does this mean to a learnt skill, why did I freeze the degrees of freedom when I have been driving for over 20 years? (please click here if you have not read part 1)
Stress or an environment that gives me an uncomfortable feel.
I was overly concerned for my family’s wellbeing and trying to over control my movements (unconsciously).
This is one example of what I see golfers do when on the golf course, when faced with a situation that they don't feel entirely comfortable with.
Having just returned from holiday, I have a few stories that you might able to relate to in with regards to your own golfing experiences.
The first is a story about my beautiful wife Shelley and her affliction with shoes.
You see my wife has the habit of picking beautiful looking shoes, however rarely do they function when they have to be used!
The story played itself out on holiday when Shelley had bought a new pair of shoes for the holiday.
Shelley's holiday shoes.
I have become an over specialist in golf.
This really hit home a few years ago, with the limited time I do get to play golf, most of it is a few holes here and there where I give golf lessons in Edinburgh, Craigmillar Park Golf Club.
A few years ago I had a few coaching clients that liked to play me for a few shekels (they owned their own respected companies, so essentially it was my services against theirs up for grabs), their better ball against my score.
Anyway the first outing they beat me on the last, ever the professional I finished the round and gave them a quick recap of their lesson. However inside I was not a happy bunny, giving my services away for free.
Come the next outing, well I was well up for it.
So leading on from the last two blogs, I see golfer’s day in day out over controlling their movements. (if you not read the last two blogs. Part one click here & part two click here)
Most of the time from someone whom has a fairly well learnt skill (hitting a golf ball) and trying to over control their movement with a complex set of rules.
Too many swing thoughts for example.
This can be a result of either over coaching or listening to too much information from media sources and friends.
